FIFA offers Turkish Cypriots chance to play friendlies
The campaigns and communications team plan are at the heart of Embargoed! operations, from organising Embargoed!’s public actions and demonstrations, to keeping members, supporters and the wider world aware of the work Embargoed! is doing. The team is responsible for media relations, campaign and member communications (e-bulletins to members and the bi-monthly Engage). On the campaigns front, they recently organised the ‘Gagged’ demonstration outside 10 Downing Street, and are currently managing the petition for the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the Turkish Cypriot People and the My Story testimonies of people affected by the embargoes.
This recently formed team spearheads Embargoed!’s efforts to raise money to fund the campaign. Plans in the pipeline include car boot sales, Embargoed! merchandise - including a specially designed T-shirt by Hussein Chalayan, a dinner and dance, and a fundraising concert in Cyprus.
This team form the core of our campaign, targeting those decision-makers and institutions that have the power to end the embargoes. Whether it’s briefing MPs and MEPs, campaigning to overturn the “politically motivated” Transport for London ban on North Cyprus advertising, working with Turkish Cypriot community leaders, or lobbying the media for more balanced coverage of the Cyprus conflict, this team has its work cut out!
Embargoed! wouldn’t exist if it were not for the support of its members and for the funds that have been generously donated. As the organisation grows into a global network, it is important that Embargoed! functions effectively and our members stay in touch with the latest developments. This team is therefore responsible for managing and administering all Embargoed! affairs, from banking to correspondence, to member mailouts, processing new joiner forms, and organising member functions such as the recent Open Evening in Tottenham.
