Embargoed! goes ‘Arabian Nights’ for fundraising dinner - 20 November 2007

Human rights group Embargoed! have announced details about their Arabian Nights themed dinner and dance. Taking place on Friday 30 November at the Regency Banqueting Suite, Tottenham, from 19.30 to midnight guests will be treated to a “magical night full of Eastern promise” and help essential income for the campaign to end North Cyprus’ isolation.

The fundraising event begins with a half hour champagne reception, followed by a sumptuous 7-course banquet ‘fit for a sultan’. Guests will be entertained with live music from Arabic and Turkish bands, as well as other mystical surprises including the chance to win from an Aladdin’s cave of raffle prizes. Tickets are priced at £35 per person – reduced to £30 if booking a whole table of 10 – and are on sale now from outlets across London:

Embargoed! member and dinner organiser Nese Martin said, “Our volunteers work amazingly hard to raise awareness about the isolation of North Cyprus and Embargoed! has had a massive impact since we started it in September 2004 – when global public sympathy rested entirely with Greek Cypriots.” She continued, “We’ve lobbied politicians and ran seminars on key issues such as Property, EU-Turkey-Cyprus relations, and Racism, while our creative protests – the Go Slow Convoy, Gagged in Brussels and Balls to Embargoes – have grabbed international media attention. Today world opinion is on our side, which we can use to help overturn the unfair embargoes. The more funds we raise, the more action we can take.”

Turkish internet dating agency Canim-Benim is supporting Embargoed!’s Arabian Nights dinner dance by donating a raffle prize and helping with event publicity.
