Embargoed! Appoints Patron for Football - 25 March 2009

Human Rights group Embargoed! has announced the appointment of their latest Patron, Danis Salman. Danis, who is widely recognised as being the most successful Turkish Cypriot professional footballer has agreed to become Embargoed!s Patron for Football.
Embargoed! Chairperson Fevzi Hussein commented Embargoed! is extremely proud of and thankful to Danis Salman for agreeing to take on this new Patronage. We have always showed a keen interest in sport in general and football in particular. The continuing embargoes facing our footballers in the TRNC are a real shame, as their opportunities to play on the big stage, which fortunately Danis was able to realise here in the United Kingdom, are curtailed in a most unreasonable manner.
Embargoed! continues to lobby strongly to ensure TRNC footballers are given every opportunity to fulfil their footballing dreams. Hussein added Danis has been involved in the game for some 35 years, after making his professional debut at the stunningly young age of only 15 years for Brentford Football Club. His knowledge and contacts are second to none and he is very keen to give something back to the TRNC to help it develop its footballing infrastructure.
It is expected that some serious dialogue will be developing over the coming months with both the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation (initially) and any other football clubs over in the TRNC to see where formal support mechanisms can be developed in a constructive manner.
