The 5th year of the Bayrak vigil continues outside the Waltham Forest Town Hall. September’s vigil at Fellowship Square took place on the last week of September. We also took the opportunity to deliver a letter to Paul Perkins, the leader of Waltham Forest Council (Green Party) and the successor of the infamous Grace Williams, during our sit-in.
We had written to Councillor Perkins in July to congratulate him and introduce ourselves and Embargoed! We also gave him a summary of the history behind the vigil and asked to meet him.
We have had no response so far, so decided to write to him again and request a reply to our previous letter.
A group of school boys showed an interest in our banner and we explained briefly why we were there. One of them, a young man named Esa was keen to be in our photo to show his support for Turkish Cypriots he said, adding that he had ‘many Turkish Cypriot friends who are all good people’.
