Eight sizes, two colours, moving or still: choose whatever suits your site. Flip the switches to see every version, then copy the code. It brings our logo and style with it, so there is nothing to upload, no scripts and no cookies.

For newsletters, email signatures, social media or website builders that only take pictures. Every size comes as a still image (PNG) and as an animated one (GIF), in Ink and Sand.

An image cannot link by itself. When you add it, make the picture a link to our website, so a click takes people to us: https://www.embargoed.org/ Most editors have a link button for images; the guides below show where it is.

Step by step

How to add it to your site

WordPress
  1. Open the page or post, or go to Appearance → Widgets for a sidebar.
  2. Click + and add a Custom HTML block.
  3. Paste the code from Copy the code, then use Preview in the block to check it.
  4. Update or publish.

Classic editor: switch to the Text tab before pasting. On WordPress.com plans without plugins the editor removes style code: use an Image block with the PNG or GIF instead, then the link button in the block toolbar to add https://www.embargoed.org/.

Wix
  1. In the editor click Add Elements → Embed Code → Embed HTML.
  2. Choose Code, paste the code and click Update.
  3. Drag the box to the banner size (728 × 90 for the leaderboard). For the responsive strip make it full width and about 160 px tall.
  4. Publish.

Using an image instead? Add it, click Link in its toolbar, choose Web address and paste https://www.embargoed.org/.

Squarespace
  1. Edit the page, click Add Block and choose Code.
  2. Paste the code, keep the mode on HTML, and save.

What a Code block accepts depends on your plan. If the banner does not show after saving, use an Image block with the PNG or GIF and put https://www.embargoed.org/ in its Clickthrough link.

Shopify
  1. Go to Online Store → Themes → Customise.
  2. Add a section, choose Custom Liquid, paste the code and save.
Webflow
  1. Drag an Embed element where you want the banner.
  2. Paste the code, Save & Close, then publish.
GoDaddy Website Builder
  1. Click Add Section, search for HTML and add it.
  2. Paste the code into Custom Code.
  3. Set Forced Height to the banner height (90 for the leaderboard, 250 for the medium rectangle, 170 for the responsive strip).
  4. Click Done, then publish.

GoDaddy shows custom code inside a frame, so the banner opens our site in a new tab. That is expected.

Blogger
  1. Go to Layout, click Add a Gadget and choose HTML/JavaScript.
  2. Paste the code and save. Inside a post, switch to HTML view first.
Your own HTML site
  1. Paste the code anywhere inside <body>, where the banner should appear.
  2. That is all: the style travels with it and only applies to the banner.
Email signature

Email programs ignore animation and most styling, so use a downloaded image and add the link.

  1. Download the leaderboard PNG (or the mobile one for a smaller signature).
  2. Gmail: Settings → See all settings → Signature. Insert the image, select it, click the link icon and paste https://www.embargoed.org/.
  3. Outlook: Settings → Mail → Compose and reply → Email signature. Add the image, select it and use Insert link.
  4. Apple Mail: Settings → Signatures. Drag the image in, select it and press ⌘K to add the link.
Social media

Download the half page or medium rectangle image and post it with https://www.embargoed.org/ in the text. Instagram does not make links in posts clickable, so put the link in your bio or on a story link sticker.

Questions

Stuck?

Email us your website address and the banner you like. We will help you add it.

hello@embargoed.org
Does the banner track my visitors?

No. There are no scripts, no cookies and nothing loads from other websites: everything is inside the code you paste. The link carries a short tag (utm_source=supporter-banner) so we can count visits from banners in our own statistics. It does not identify anyone.

Will it slow my site down?

No. Each banner is under 10 KB of plain HTML and CSS, about the size of a small icon. It needs no images and no web fonts.

Will it change the look of the rest of my site?

No. Its style only applies to the banner: every rule starts with embb. Pick Ink for light pages and Sand for dark ones, or whichever stands out more.

Is it accessible?

Yes. Screen readers hear one clear label (“Embargoed! Fed up with the embargoes against Turkish Cypriots? Click here”), it works with the keyboard with a visible focus ring, and the animation stops for visitors who ask their device for less motion.

I downloaded an image. Why does nothing happen when I click it?

An image is just a picture: you need to add the link yourself. Select the image in your editor, use its link option and paste https://www.embargoed.org/. The guides above show where the option is.

Can I change the words or the colours?

Please keep the logo, the wording and the link as they are, so the campaign looks the same everywhere. If you need another size or a translation, email us and we will make one.

The banner is too big for my column.

Fixed-size banners shrink in proportion when the space is narrower, so nothing is cut off. If it gets too small to read, use the responsive strip: it rearranges itself for narrow spaces.

Where does it link?

To https://www.embargoed.org/, in a new tab, so your visitors keep your page open.
