Turkish Cypriot swimmer Boran Bora has once again made history, achieving remarkable success in international competitions and proving himself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of open-water swimming. However, while his accomplishments inspire pride, they also highlight the ongoing injustice faced by athletes from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), who are denied their rightful place to represent their country on the global stage.
A Rising Star in Open-Water Swimming
On December 14, 2024, Boran Bora competed in the OCEANMAN UAE – Dubai World Final Championship, facing off against 221 swimmers from 90 countries. Demonstrating incredible skill and determination, he placed 6th overall with a time of 27 minutes and 2 seconds in the 2 km race. More impressively, he secured the title of World Champion in the 14-19 age category, bringing pride to his community.
The following day, Bora continued to challenge himself in the 5 km World Final, proving his consistency and resilience in one of the most demanding swimming events. Earlier this year, he also showcased his prowess at the 36th Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race, held in Istanbul, where he competed against swimmers from 78 countries.
